About Us
K Talk is a lesbian-run podcast hosted by Shakira Sison and Khuda Sioson. It was created by Shakira and Khuda, along with their fellow collaborator, director, and manager Lia Roque. The first episode aired on June 1, 2021, in time for Pride Month.
K Talk was named after the nicknames of its hosts, as well as the content of their shows: kaalaman (knowledge), kulitan (banter), kalokohan (shenanigans), and katomboyan (lesbianism). The show is primarily in Tagalog, English, and Taglish, and aims to educate its listeners about Filipino LGBTQ+ life, history, particularly Pinay lesbian relationships in the Philippines and as OFWs abroad. They also discuss feminism, sexism, and sexual taboos in a predominantly Catholic country.
Shakira Sison is more widely known as a writer of essays about queer life, immigration, politics, and women’s issues. In her social media presence she is often seen cooking, traveling, and enjoying her time at home with her wife and pets. She grew up in Manila, Philippines, and moved to New York City in 2002.
Khuda Sioson has lived in Toronto for the past ten years. Initially moving to Canada from the Philippines for love, she now makes a home with her wife Lia, and spends her time outside work cooking, exercising, dancing, and singing. A born performer from Lower Pandacan, Manila, Khuda would like to show us her world, shining, shimmering, splendid. Tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?
Lia Roque is a softball and strength and conditioning coach who also enjoys doing creative things. She is the editor, producer, and manager of KTalk Podcast, and also its Number One Fan.
